Sir Mark Elder has a longstanding relationship with us, first performing with us back in 1992.
He has been Music Director of Manchester’s historic Hallé orchestra since 2000.
In recent years, our collaborations with Sir Mark Elder have focused on performances and recordings of rarely-performed operas that deserve to be heard, in collaboration with Opera Rara. These have included Offenbach’s Fantasio, Donizetti’s Les Martyrs (2014), and Rossini’s Semiramide (2017). He also conducted our 30th birthday concert in 2016, a performance of Weber’s fantastical opera Der Freischütz at Southbank Centre‘s Royal Festival Hall.
